Julianne Hough tells Entertainment Tonight that the abuse she suffered during childhood "sucked the life" out of her.Â
It has been a long road to recovery for Julianne Hough, who says the physical and mental abuse she sustained as a child âsucked the lifeâ out of her.
âThe light about me was gone,â the former âDancing with the Starsâ pro told Entertainment Tonight. âI was just a dark person."
The 24-year-old actress revealed her shocking history of abuse in Februaryâs issue of Cosmopolitan.
The abuse began when she was just 10 while she was training to become a dancer in London at the world-renowned Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts.
âI was a tormented little kid who had to put on this sexy facade because that was my job and my life,â she told the magazine.

Hough told ET that she doesnât like to speak about the ordeal and has since learned to put the past behind her.
âI had to leave that situation and kind of come into my own again, and I did,â she explained.
The young starlet continues to move forward. Sheâs set to star in the upcoming Nicholas Sparks flick âSafe Havenâ as Katie, a woman also dealing with an abusive past.
Hough says the role was bittersweet.
âBeing Katie, I relate a lot to her,â Hough said. âThe fact that she had been in one situation that just sucked the life out of her â" and it was a bad situation â" and she needed to change and move on and kind of find her own again.
âAnd through that you find love and everything."
