Jessica Simpson to star in NBC sitcom inspired by her own life

Jessica Simpson is set to make her comeback on a scripted television series.

Jessica Simpson is set to make her return to the small screen.

The singer-turned-fashion mogul, who is expecting her second child with fiancé Eric Johnson, has been confirmed to star in an NBC sitcom inspired by her own her life.

"We are thrilled to team up with the multitalented Jessica Simpson to bring this new sitcom to life on NBC as she is truly a modern-day Lucy with incredible comedic chops," said Electus founder and chairman Ben Silverman, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "From running a fashion empire to wrangling her public image as a new mom, we see Jessica's character approach a variety of 'everyday' circumstances that will get audiences laughing out loud."

The project is currently untitled and has yet to film its pilot episode. Nick Bakay, who has worked on the Kevin James films "Paul Blart: Mall Cop" and "Zookeeper," is said to be writing the pilot’s script. Simpson’s dad, Joe Simpson, will serve as one of the show’s producers.

"I am so excited to work with Ben (Silverman) and NBC again, this time on a scripted comedy," Simpson, 32, said about the project. "I often find myself thinking that no one could ever make up the things that actually happen in my life â€" so between the real-life elements and a great team of writers, I think we'll have people laughing!"

This isn’t the blond beauty’s first attempt at becoming a sitcom star. In 2004, Simpson filmed a pilot for an ABC sitcom, titled “Jessica,” but the show never made it to air. She had better luck, however, when she appeared alongside then-husband Nick Lachey on the popular MTV reality show “Newlyweds, which ended after two years in 2005.

Simpson, who has since appeared on the big screen in the movies “Dukes of Hazzard,” “Employee of the Month” and a number of other flops, returned to the reality genre in 2010 with the short-lived MTV docuseries, “The Price of Beauty.” She currently serves as a mentor on the NBC fashion competition show “Fashion Star.”
