Sean Penn's Hollywood pals do his bidding

Leonardo DiCaprio (l.) was one of many buddies who showed up for Sean Penn at a Haiti benefit.

The Penn proved mightier than the sword at a star-studded fundraiser for Haiti Saturday night.

Actor-vist Sean Penn’s $ 2,500-$ 5,000-per-seat benefit in Los Angeles raised $ 2.25 million for the beleaguered country, which had been devastated by earthquakes three year ago to the day. The big dinner party and auction attracted heavy hitters like media moguls Harvey Weinstein, Barry Diller and CAA’s Bryan Lourd, actors Daniel Craig, Leonardo DiCaprio, Richard Gere and Julia Roberts, and newsman Anderson Cooper, who hosted the night’s festivities.

“I didn’t know Sean and was afraid if I pointed a camera at him he may beat me up,” Cooper joked from the stage.

Mayor Bloomberg couldn’t make it in person, but hizzoner sent a video expressing his best wishes.

“I am sorry I can’t be there with you,” Bloomberg said. “If the Golden Globes had nominated me for my cameo on ‘Gossip Girl’ I may have been there.”

Sneaking drags from an electronic cigarette, DiCaprio was overheard telling Gere’s wife, Carey Lowell, “We partied together a long time ago,” while cracking a big grin.

When bidding began, DiCaprio offered $ 100,000 for the honor of bringing a guest along to spend the day with former President Clinton. When another bidder topped his proposal, DiCaprio suggested they join forces, bid $ 400,000, and make it a foursome. Sold! However, when the Wolf of Wall Street got into the bidding for an “Explore Bhutan” vacation package, our insider says he was outmatched by Roberta Armani, who plunked down $ 240,000.

Also at the party were Jonah Hill, Pamela Anderson, Eva Longoria and David Spade, who attended with Selita Banks.

L.A. PARTY SUITS COOPER TO A TEA

Big stars like Ben Affleck, Sienna Miller, Tim Burton and Helena Bonham Carter attended the British Academy of Film and Television Arts’ Tea Party at the Four Seasons Hotel in L.A., but Bradley Cooper was the man of the hour.

The “Silver Linings Playbook” star was among the first to arrive at the soiree and it didn’t go unnoticed that he was wearing a gold band on his left ring finger. When asked about it, Cooper declined to answer and worked his way through the room sipping from a cup of coffee he’d brought in.

Sources at the party tell us Cooper was swarmed by women just the same.

“Everyone wants a photo with him,” says our insider. “He is the darling of awards season.”

Olivia Munn was among the lovely ladies our party insider spied trying to get into a photograph with Cooper. At one point, he chatted with two older women and comforted one as she started sobbing. The woman, who only identified herself as Christine, would only say, “It’s a very personal matter.”

A few days earlier, Cooper revealed to E! TV who his lucky date for the Oscars would be: his mom. His reps didn’t return calls about the ring.

MATT’S MOMENT IN THE SUN

It was boys’ night out for Matt Dillon, Ira Judelson and a handful of their old Mamaroneck High School chums Saturday. The entourage was spied dining at the Mohegan Sun’s Tuscany while they also watched the double overtime Ravens-Broncos thriller. They then tried their luck at the crap tables where a source says, “Matt did okay and made a few bucks for himself.” Judelson, known around town as “The Bail Bondsman to the Stars,” also won some dough when he asked the hot-handed Dillon to roll for him.
