Jessica Simpson to make comedy pilot

Jessica Simpson to make comedy pilot

Pop-singer turned reality star Jessica Simpson is betting her life is funny enough for a primetime network show.

Simpson has signed a deal with NBC to film a comedy pilot inspired by her own life.

“I often find myself thinking that no one could ever make up the things that actually happen in my life â€" so between the real-life elements and a great team of writers, I think we’ll have people laughing.”

NBC is already working with Simpson and the pilot’s producers on the reality show “Fashion Star,” on which Simpson is a judge.

“Jessica Simpson is truly a modern-day Lucy with incredible comedic chops,” said executive producer Ben Silverman. “From running a fashion empire to wrangling her public image as a new mom, we see Jessica’s character approach a variety of ‘everyday’ circumstances that will get audiences laughing out loud.”

For Simpson, who launched her TV career with an arc on the Fox sitcom “That ’70s Show,” the new project represents a return to acting.

She starred in a few movies, including “The Dukes Of Hazzard,” before focusing on her fashion and beauty business. Simpson, who started off as a pop singer, became one of the first big TV reality stars with her MTV series “Newlyweds.”
