Anna Sui says stylezillas are a bad fit

Anna Sui says stylezillas are a bad fit

Anna Sui has a message for all wanna-be designers trying to make it on reality TV these days.

“I don’t know if it’s real,” Sui says of the clothes-loving kids coming of age on shows like “Project Runway,” where she was a guest judge last September.

“It’s kind of skewing what we do and I think that kids are coming up in this world thinking that’s how to behave and I don’t know if that’s right,” Sui tells Confidenti@l. “I think they really have to learn their craft and hone their skills more so than being a diva or a nightmare.”

Sui once again will be one of the trend-setters showing at Lincoln Center during Fashion Week next month, even though she’s super bitter about the venue, where her runway show is scheduled for Feb 13. Sui says give her back the drafty, old-school tents in Bryant Park, shoddy plumbing and all.

“I’m a big advocate of Save the Garment Center, and I loved Bryant Park because it felt like it was the Garment Center, so I miss those days,” Sui says. “It felt like a community then. Now it feels like we’re in someone else’s territory.”

The quirky designer, who came to New York from Detroit with a sewing machine and a dream in the ’80s before doing her first runway show in 1991, told us at the premiere of A24 Films’ “A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III” that she thinks a reliance on technology is hurting the quality of the clothes we buy.

“The emphasis on technique and craftsmanship isn’t around any more, because everything is virtual and people think they can make a dress on the computer,” Sui says. “But I think you have to see how the fabric falls. That’s the beauty of what we do.”

What Sui does like are actresses such as Emma Stone and Natalie Portman, who she thinks are elevating the game by taking chances with fashion on the red carpet. However, the designer is baffled by actresses who neglect to wear underwear to premieres, like Anne Hathaway did last month, making her “Les Miserables” opening perhaps the wrong talk of the town.

“When was the last time you forgot to put on underwear?” she asks. “It’s a strange phenomenon.”

LOVE LIFE MAYBE NOT TOO SWIFT

Taylor Swift’s next hit could be called “We are never, ever having sex.” Turns out Swift and One Direction boytoy Harry Styles might have fizzled because the “Born Again” singer is “asexual,” according to Radaronline. A Radar source identified as a friend of the pop star said “she hardly ever put out.” Swift’s reps didn’t return calls for comment.

PHELPS IS FREESTYLIN’

Fresh after splitting with Megan Rossee, Olympic aqua-man Michael Phelps dove head first into poolside party mode. The recently retired 22-time Olympic medal winner was spotted boozing from the bottle and hanging out with pals in the Bahamas as the weekend got underway. In his quest to pursue a life of leisure, the 27-year-old Phelps is slated to appear on the Golf Channel’s Haney Project, where he’ll putt around with professional golf instructor Hank Haney.

MODELS MUST FACE REALITY

First, reality TV stars replaced actors. Now they’re putting models out of work, too. At Feb. 9’s RFRA Fashion for AIDS, more than two dozen reality stars, including Ramona Singer from “The Real Housewives of New York City,” Ramona Rizzo of “Mob Wives” and Deena Cortese from “The Jersey Shore” will walk the Altman Building’s catwalk for charity. “I’m a natural,” asserts Cortese, who made her runway debut for Sandy relief in November. However, she concedes, “If someone’s going to fall, it’s going to be me.”

A STERN FOR THE BETTER

King of All Media Howard Stern turns 59 Saturday, and his former sidekick Jackie Martling sent him an open birthday card via Confidenti@l: “Happy Birthday, Howard. I was going to get you something you need, but I don’t know how to wrap a bath.” Martling continues, “Seriously, for your birthday present, I offer you & a guest half-price admission to see my show at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Conn., at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19. Love you, Jackie Martling.”

TYSON LANDS KILLER ROLE

Will TV audiences suspend disbelief long enough to believe Mike Tyson could do something violent and crazy? The former heavyweight champion will appear as murderer Reggie Rhodes in an upcoming episode of “Law & Order: SVU.” Though Iron Mike did a film cameo in “The Hangover” and a TV cameo on “Entourage” and played himself in a one-man show on Broadway, this will be his TV acting debut as a character not named Mike Tyson.

ADELE KEEPS HER COVER

When it comes to secrecy, superspy James Bond has nothing on Adele. Amid very tight security, the English hitmaker arrived at LAX Thursday with her nearly 3-month-old baby â€" whose name she hasn’t made public â€" covered completely by a blanket. Adele is in Los Angeles after being nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Original Song. She will perform “Skyfall,” the nominated title track from the latest James Bond thriller, at the Academy Awards in February.
