JEREMY DANIEL
Heâs in like Flynn again: Christopher Sieber is returning as Billy, the slick âChicagoâ lawyer.
Sequins, high heels and show tunes can take a toll on a guy.
Ask Christopher Sieber, who criss-crossed the U.S. for over a year playing drag queen Albin opposite George Hamilton as his lover, George, in âLa Cage aux Folles.â
Physically, emotionally and sartorially, he says, âIt was exhausting.â
Sieber is very happy to be back home on the upper West Side and on Broadway in a single costume â" a black tux â" playing Billy Flynn in âChicagoâ at the Ambassador Theatre. Sieber starts a two-month run as the razzle-dazzling lawyer on Dec. 25 at 8 p.m. (Billy Ray Cyrus exits on Dec. 23.)
âFor me, thereâs nothing like Christmas in New York â" the atmosphere, the energy â" and being back in âChicagoâ is an amazing gift,â says Sieber.
Making it an even more glittery package: He returns to the 16-year-old revival by Fred Ebb and John Kander at a historic moment. On Dec. 20, âChicagoâ played its 6,681st performance and surpassed âLes Miserablesâ to become the third-longest-running show in Broadway history.
Sieberâs Broadway credits include Tony-nominated roles in âSpamalotâ and âShrek.â He has played Billy Flynn on three previous occasions: âI love the show,â he says. âAnd I get to be part of that special thing that makes New York . . . New York.â
Cool for Yule: Besides âChicago,â six other Broadway shows are playing on Christmas: âEvita,â âJersey Boys,â âRock of Agesâ and âWhoâs Afraid of Virginia Woolf?â â" all at 7 p.m. â" and âMamma Mia!â and âThe Phantom of the Operaâ at 8 p.m. Happy holidays!
