'Game of Thrones' gets bigger - or at least longer - third season

'Game of Thrones' gets bigger - or at least longer - third season

If there weren’t enough beheadings on “Game of Thrones” for you, expect another few minutes worth every episode in the fantasy drama’s third season.

HBO announced that each of the ten episodes will be “super-sized” to fit in as much of the saga based on George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Fire and Ice” books as possible.

"There's almost another full episode's worth of extra minutes spread across the season," showrunner Dan Weiss told Entertainment Weekly. "One of the great liberties with HBO is we're not forced to come in at a specific time. We can't be under 50 minutes or over 60, but that gives us a lot of flexibility."

The third season, which premieres on March 31, covers roughly half of Martin’s novel, “A Storm of Swords,” and features even more medievel murder and mayhem.

Viewers are still reeling from the beheading of main character Ned Stark in the first season.

"George is a savage god and he does terrible things to his characters," co-executive producer David Benioff told the Daily News in 2011.
