Pop-singer turned reality star Jessica Simpson is betting her life is funny enough for a primetime network show.
Simpson has signed a deal with NBC to film a comedy pilot inspired by her own life.
“I often find myself thinking that no one could ever make up the things that actually happen in my life â€" so between the real-life elements and a great team of writers, I think we’ll have people laughing.â€
NBC is already working with Simpson and the pilot’s producers on the reality show “Fashion Star,†on which Simpson is a judge.
“Jessica Simpson is truly a modern-day Lucy with incredible comedic chops,†said executive producer Ben Silverman. “From running a fashion empire to wrangling her public image as a new mom, we see Jessica’s character approach a variety of ‘everyday’ circumstances that will get audiences laughing out loud.â€
For Simpson, who launched her TV career with an arc on the Fox sitcom “That ’70s Show,†the new project represents a return to acting.
She starred in a few movies, including “The Dukes Of Hazzard,†before focusing on her fashion and beauty business. Simpson, who started off as a pop singer, became one of the first big TV reality stars with her MTV series “Newlyweds.â€
